Lady Gaga Tattoo Meanings and Pics of Gagas Tattoos

Curious why all of Lady Gaga’s tattoos (actually, all of her body tattoos) are inked only on the left side of her body? It’s because Gaga is a self-professed daddy’s girl and she is honoring her dad’s request to keep one side of her body “slightly normal.” Because of this, Gaga only has tattoos on the left side of her body; the right side is completely clean. Gaga actually refers to the left side of her body as her “Iggy Pop side” and the right side of her body as her “Marilyn Monroe side.”

“The Haus,” which refers to “Haus of Gaga,” is the name Lady Gaga uses to describe her behind-the-scenes creative team. According to Gaga, the German name is inspired by Andy Warhol’s Factory and is also a play on the word “House,” used by famous fashion brands. The Haus works on various projects for Lady Gaga, including stage sets, clothing, props, and sounds for her live performances.

1 Do you know about Lady Gaga’s first tattoo? Most people don’t. Believe it or not, a 17-year-old Stefani Germanotta sporting a dark ‘do got her hands on a fake ID and used it to get her first of what would be many body tattoos. Her choice – a small black treble clef tattoo, which she had inked on her lower back, just above her butt. Even though the Lady Gaga treble clef tattoo suited her just fine, her parents reportedly did not. In 2008, Lady Gaga decided she wasn’t into the treble clef tat anymore and had it covered up with her rose tattoo, inked by Kat Von D.

2 The second tattoo Lady Gaga had inked on her body was a peace sign in memory of John Lennon and his vision of peace and equality. Lady Gaga’s peace tattoo is located on the inside of her left wrist and, even though people claim that the peace sign is upside-down, Gaga says it’s just right. She wanted it inked that way so it was right-side-up when she looked at it, as a reminder of what is really important in this world. Lady Gaga’s wrist tattoo was inked in 2006 by Shotsie’s Tattoo shop Wayne, NJ back when she was still the dark-haired Stefani Germanotta.

Lady Gaga’s rose tattoo was the third tat the superstar got inked on her body. The intertwining vines and roses tattoo was added to Lady Gaga’s tattoo collection in 2008, when she visited High Voltage tattoo parlor in Hollywood wearing skin tight electric blue pants and a platinum wig. Although she was virtually unknown at the time, Gaga was on her way to the top; and she knew it! The purpose of Lady Gaga’s rose tattoo? To cover up the treble clef tattoo she regrets getting with a fake ID at age 17. And Lady Gaga’s hip tattoo was inked by none other than celebrity tattoo artist Kat Von D!

4Lady Gaga’s fourth tattoo consists of three white daisies inked on her upper back/left shoulder area. Lady Gaga got this daisy tattoo in 2008, not long after getting her rose tat inked by Kat Von D. Lady Gaga’s flower tattoo was the first of her three upper back tattoos. It’s obvious that Lady Gaga loves flowers, and she also loves tattoos, so this daisy back tattoo is the perfect combination of her two passions!

5One of the three tattoos Lady Gaga got in 2009 was the Tokyo Love tat scrawled across the pop superstar’s upper back. According to Gaga, the back tattoo was inspired by the famous Japanese photographer, Nobuyoshi Araki, whose S&M-inspired photo shoot involved Lady Gaga being bound, painted and then photographed throughout the night. Araki signed the photos “Tokyo Love,” which Gaga promptly had inked on her back, true to his handwriting and all! Well, judging by Lady Gaga’s Tokyo Love tattoo, she really liked those pictures from the Tokyo photo shoot!

In 2009, Lady Gaga decided to commemorate her favorite philosopher, Rainer Maria Rilke, with a German tattoo inked on the inner part of her left arm. Lady Gaga’s Rilke tattoo consists of a quote from Rilke’s “Letters to a Young Poet,” and the tattoo meaning is pretty heavy. Right in the middle of the German tattoo, Gaga also had the date 12/18/1974 inked on her arm, which is the date her aunt Joanne passed away. Lady Gaga tattoo pictures showing the arm tat cropped up while she was visiting Seoul in 2009, shortly after the tattoo was inked by a Japanese tattoo parlor in Osaka.

7A self-professed daddy’s girl, Lady Gaga expressed her love for her father in the most permanent of ways – with a new “dad” heart tattoo on her back. Lady Gaga’s Dad tattoo was inked in 2009 after her dad underwent open-heart surgery, which he almost decided not to have. He changed his mind when Gaga told him she “would never love or write again” if he died because he refused the surgery. Wow, what an ultimatum to give your Dad, but it was for his own good so…we feel that, guess the queen of pop can be pretty persuasive!

8 To Little Monsters, love Mother Monster. So is Lady Gaga’s arm tattoo dedicated to her adoring fans. Gaga got “Little Monsters” inked in script on the upper part of her arm, right next to her German Rilke tattoo, as a tribute to the fans that she calls “a revolution.” And Lady Gaga tattoo pictures show the superstar’s millions of fans returning the favor to Mother Monster with their own tattoos of Lady Gaga. Lady Gaga’s little monsters tattoo was inked in February 2010, at Shamrock Social Club tattoo parlor in Hollywood. And true to her dad’s request, Lady Gaga’s monster tattoo is inked on her left arm.

9The Lady Gaga tattoo characterized by the most mysterious reveal is the unicorn tattoo she got inked on her left thigh in September 2010 to commemorate her third album, “Born This Way.” Gaga revealed the name of her highly-anticipated album by belting out a few lines of the title track upon accepting her VMA award for Video of the Year, meat dress and all. The next day Lady Gaga was photographed traipsing through LAX in a gold jacket, bra, underwear, belt, and yes – her new Born This Way tattoo of a unicorn. Good thing Gaga forgot her pants or we may have had to wait even longer to spot Lady Gaga’s thigh tattoo!
